First Bath

It was time. My Fireside Sweater spent two weeks on display at the Fair, I've worn it a few times when the evenings were chilly and it finally needed a bath. I was really nervous about washing it, because I don't want to ruin it after all the time it took to make. I used 70% Merino Wool/30% Silk yarn, and to tell you the truth, the only thing this California girl knows about washing wool sweaters is AVOID THE DRYER! The instructions for this yarn were simply hand wash, dry flat. Hmm.

I did some research of course, 'cause that's what I do. I found fantastic instructions here and ran out to Target to get some blue Dawn. The result was fantastic. My sweater is even softer than before and still fits! The most important part! It did, however, take 36 hours to dry because I had trouble finding one of those cool mesh sweater drying racks in the store. I had to lay it on a towel and rotate every 12 hours. Later, I found this drying rack on Amazon, so I'm hoping it speeds up the drying time in the future.

When my sweater was finally dry, I was wearing it around the house. My husband said to me, "So, I bet you're going to wear that sweater all winter, aren't you? It's too bad you don't have one in another color."

Me: "No, but good thing I also ordered the same yarn in RED!"

Yarn Galore

A friend of mine inherited a huge box of yarn among other things, and offered the yarn to me since she isn't knitter. Score! I'm guessing the yarn is from the 70's...judging by the colors.

I told my friend I'd make her and her 5 year old daughter something cute. And then, having been a little inspired by a story I read in Knit Simple (Fall 2011) - I'm thinking about knitting a bunch of hats and handing them out to the homeless. The girl who wrote the story lives in NYC and keeps hats in her bag, and when she sees someone on the street in need, she hands them a hat. So simple, and so cool.

VK Lace Wrap...Done!

Another finished object....VK Lace Wrap. I started this way back in May when I got a little bored with the Fireside Sweater. I love how this came out! I used Knitpicks Shine Sport, and it's so soft, and the size is perfect even though I used sport weight yarn vs. worsted.

Wow, two things in a row for me! Time for some Christmas knitting....

Finished Fireside

I realized I never posted my final Fireside Sweater pics. I got them all posted on Ravelry and forgot about my blog...duh! Anyway, here it is:

I love it! So warm and cozy. I will be wearing this all winter!
